It freezes under tapwater because typically tap water is less than 64.4°F, and at that temperature, the PCM inside will solidify. Please ignore if you have warm or hot tapwater… In that case you should try cooling it with ice water or in a fridge

The ice ring's cooling effect can last for a significant duration compared to normal ice packs, depending on the surrounding temperature and the person's body heat. On average, it provides cooling relief for approximately 1-3 hours in hot weather.  If in a cooler environment, it can stay frozen much longer!  Please note times can vary depending on method of freezing, surrounding temperature, and the individual using it.

For example: A person doing exercise which causes their body heat to raise will notice the Dr.Chilly melt faster than someone staying still with a lower body temperature. 

We use PCM which is a special material that is really good at staying cool. It needs a lot of heat to make it change it's temperature.  That's why it can stay cold for a longer time and help you feel nice and cool when you wear it. Other materials don’t work the same way and doesn't stay cool for as long.  Also, it's BPA free!

Yes, many customers enjoy bringing this with them to the gym during colder months because gyms turn the heat up to much and it gets muggy and uncomfortable in there.  As well it's great for vacation when going to hot places your body isn't adapted to.  TSA approved!

Freezing time can vary depending upon environment. In cold tap water it can take around 30 minutes.  Ice water about 15 minutes.  In the fridge about 20 minutes. For the fastest freezing, we recommend the freezer which takes about 10 minutes. Normal water takes about 2 to 3 hours to freeze and melts instantly in the heat, we speed up the freezing time and lengthen the cooling time.

Your tap water might be to warm to freeze it in a timely manner. On average tap water can be 50°F-60°F, if yours is above that it may take too long or not freeze at all.  In that case use the fridge, freezer, or ice water. (In very hot states tap water may be too warm)

Your ice ring most likely was in a cold area while being shipped.  It froze from it's surrounding temperature before it reached you.  That means it's ready to go and you don't have to worry about cooling it until it melts!
